Yong-Kyu Lee was born in Seoul, South Korea and was educated at the School of Art in Seoul, at the Musikhochschule in Mannheim, Germany and at the UDK (HDK) in Berlin, Germany. He has won numerous prizes in various prestigious international competitions such as the Viotti Valsesia, Italy, 1988, The Long-Thibaud, Paris, 1992, the CIEM, Geneva, 1996, and most recently the first prize at the 2002 Maria Callas competition in Athens. He has played as soloist with orchestras such as Munich Philarmonic, L'Orchetre de la Suisse Romande, National d'ile-France, Mannheim University, Hellbronner Symphony, National Taiwan Symphony and the Daegu Philarmonic.
