HOW TO APPLY

Applicants are requested to participate in a preliminary audition by sending a video recording (Tape, VCD or DVD) of their performance not exceeding 60 minutes which must include pieces from the selection detailed in pages 12-13 of this brochure. (it does not need to have been recorded all at the same time, and it can include takes from a live performance, for example).

FIRST PRIZE WINNERS OF INTERNATIONAL PIANO COMPETITIONS INCLUDED IN THE LIST OF THE WORLD FEDERATION OF INTERNATIONAL MUSIC COMPETITIONS WILL NOT BE REQUESTED TO PARTICIPATE IN THE PRELIMINARY AUDITION AND WILL BE AUTOMATICALLY ACCEPTED TO ENTER STAGE II (QUARTERFINALS) OF THE COMPETITION PROVIDED THAT THEY COMPLY WITH OTHER CONDITIONS OF APPLICATION TO PARTICIPATE IN THE COMPETITION.

Applicants will need to send:

  1. The Tape, VCD or DVD of their performance, as mentioned above, together with:
  1. A duly completed APPLICATION FORM supplied with this brochure.
    Once the participating candidates have been selected, they will be contacted by the Committee to provide the additional documentation required to process their entry-working visas for Hong Kong. The entry-working visas will be processed by the Committee in all cases.
  1. 4 passport-size recent photographs (black and white) plus one high definition photograph (bigger, also black and white) which could be used in all publicity material.
  1. Photocopy of all relevant pages of their passport. If the participant lives in a country different from the one who issued his/her passport, please, include supporting documents proving permission to stay (and study and/or work as it might be the case) in the declared present country of residence.
  1. A detailed CV with proofs of achievements claimed, such as prizes won in competitions, etc. Applicants must list all teachers they have studied or are studying with, specifying the form of studies undertaken with each of them, duration of studies, etc. Failing to do so might result in disqualification of candidates at any stage of the competition.
  1. A non-refundable application fee of USD150 must be paid. Payment should be made by telegraphic transfer to the following bank account:

    The receipt or duplicate issued by the bank executing the telegraphic order should be sent together with other documents accompanying the Tape, VCD or DVD. ALL Bank charges connected with the remittance should be paid for by the applicant.

  2. Proposed Repertoire selected by the applicant to play in each one of the four stages of the competition, should the applicant be selected to participate. SEE OBLIGATORY REPERTOIRE LISTED IN PAGES 16,19, 22 and 25 OF THIS BROCHURE.

to reach the office of the competition not later than 31st May 2008.

FIRST PRIZE WINNERS OF INTERNATIONAL PIANO COMPETITIONS INCLUDED IN THE LIST OF THE WORLD FEDERATION OF INTERNATIONAL MUSIC COMPETITIONS, WILL BE AUTOMATICALLY ACCEPTED TO PARTICIPATE IN THE COMPETITION DIRECTLY IN ROUND II (QUARTERFINALS). THEY WILL ALSO NEED TO SEND ALL THE DOCUMENTS REQUESTED ABOVE, WITH THE EXCEPTION OF THE VIDEO RECORDING, TOGETHER WITH THE PROPOSED REPERTOIRE SELECTED BY THE APPLICANT TO PLAY IN EACH ONE OF THE THREE STAGES OF THE COMPETITION, TO REACH THE OFFICE OF THE COMPETITION BY THE 31ST MAY 2008 LATEST.

ANNOUNCEMENT OF THE 35 SELECTED CANDIDATES

All applicants will be individually contacted and sent a list of those selected by the Preselection Committee to take part in the first stage of the competition. A maximum of 35 candidates will be participating in the first stage, Round I of the competition. The list of 35 candidates will be published latest by 15th August 2008, together with the list of participants who will enter directly in Round II of the Competition. Each participant will be individually notified of their selection to participate. The selected candidates will be requested to return by fax or registered post a signed acceptance to participate in the competition agreeing to abide by all the rules and regulations of the Committee, as soon as he/she receives this notification. This acceptance must reach the Committee by 30th August 2008. Failure to do so may disqualify the candidate.
